Beeswax

Beeswax is secreted by the worker bee from special wax glands on the underside of its body. Using this wax, bees build cells to accommodate their eggs and honey storage. The specific arrangement of cells made for this purpose is called the honeycomb.

When honey is collected for extraction, the honeycomb is melted in boiling water. The wax that rises to the surface is filtered and collected for later use in the soap, cosmetic, or candle making process.

Beeswax is known for its a hardening qualities in soap making. It is used in face and hand creams for its emollient qualities, and in ointments, lipsticks and salves for the thin, protective layer it provides the skin.

As with any bee product, beeswax, propolis, honey, royal jelly, pollen, and bee venom may provoke an allergic reaction in a susceptible individual. We recommend you do not use products containing these ingredients if you suffer from asthma or anaphylaxis.
