Borage oil is the essential oil derived from the leaves of the borage plant. It contains a very high percentage of gamma-linolenic acid, an essential fatty acid also known as vitamin F, which the human body does not produce. This essential fatty acid is important in our diets and skin care products as it offers a wide range of benefits.

Essential fatty acids inhibit bacterial growth and encourage the production of antibodies, enhancing our bodies' ability to fight infection and inflammation.
Low levels of essential fatty acids have been linked to water loss, a possible culprit in hair loss, eczema, and dry skin.

Vegetable oils with high percentages of essential fatty acids are believed to ease inflammation and itching; moisturize the skin and scalp; and treat dry, scaly skin and dandruff. Borage oil is thus best suited for dry skin.
