Coltsfoot: Tussilago farfara

Coltsfoot is quite rich in cystine and silica. Cystine and other sulfur-containing amino acids are important in hair and skin products because the majority of our body’s sulfur is located in the nails, skin and hair. Cystine contributes to the strength of each hair strand. The cystine content of the hair varies according to a person’s age and hair color; however, lower cystine and silica levels are found in hair that is falling out.

Silica is an important food for the roots of hair and is believed to prevent hair loss. Herbals and herbal extracts high in cystine and organic silica are important in hair care products.

Coltsfoot is used in shampoos, hair tonics, lotions and creams. The flowers, leaves, and roots are the plant parts used for its medicinal properties.

Our Coltsfoot Herbal Extract is obtained from the Herb Pharm in Williams, Oregon. It is custom wildcrafted in its natural wild habitat, or it is Certified Organically Grown without synthetic chemicals. It is carefully shade-dried and then thoroughly extracted. The Herb Pharm does not fumigate or irridiate.
