Cystine and other sulfur-containing amino acids are important in hair and skin products because the majority of our body’s sulfur is located in the nails, skin and hair. Cystine contributes to the strength of each hair strand. The cystine content of the hair varies according to a person’s age and hair color; however, lower cystine and silica levels are found in hair that is falling out.
